To celebrate the 104th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and strengthen the synergy of scientific and technological innovation, on the afternoon of July 1, 2025, the Weihai Industrial Technology Research Institute organized more than 20 business backbones from the "1+4+N" innovation platform system to visit the Shandong JuHong Biotech Research Institute for a "Convergence Salon" technology docking activity. This activity, themed "Biofermentation Technology Empowering the Big Health Industry," promoted the deep coupling of the innovation chain and the industrial chain through on-site inspections and discussions.
Fermentation technology drives health upgrades
The visiting team first visited the JuHong Research Institute's R&D center and pilot platform. As a characteristic innovation carrier in Weihai City's "1+4+N" system, the institute focuses on the extraction and functional utilization of biological resources and has made many breakthroughs in the field of microbial fermentation: Through directional fermentation technology, the extraction rate of Lycium barbarum polysaccharide has been increased from 25% in traditional processes to over 60%, and a series of products such as fermented jujube seed drinks with both sleep-aid and intestinal regulation functions have been developed. The person in charge of the relevant department of the research institute explained the "enzymatic hydrolysis-fermentation combined use" equipment on site. This technology can effectively decompose plant cell walls, increasing the dissolution rate of active ingredients by 50%-100%, providing a solution for the standardized production of food and medicinal products.
Industry-academia-research cooperation on results transformation
Sun Zilin, general manager of JuHong Research Institute, pointed out: "The practice of JuHong Research Institute has verified the innovative concept of 'writing papers in the industry,' and its "platform + ecosystem + industrialization" operation model is highly consistent with the goal of upgrading the "1+4+N" system. In the future, we will cooperate technically with Harbin Institute of Technology (Weihai) Research Institute to jointly tackle the gene editing technology of fermentation strains and improve product tolerance; in terms of market docking, we plan to cooperate with the Weihai Electronic Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology to build a digital supply chain platform to help products accurately reach consumers."
General Manager Sun Zilin emphasized that this salon is a vivid practice of implementing the construction of the "doing well 1, strengthening 4, and activating N" system. This visit not only demonstrated the application prospects of biofermentation technology in the field of big health, but also, through the closed-loop mechanism of "demand docking-resource integration-project implementation," provided a replicable cooperation model for the innovation platform system to serve the real economy.
